St. Dymphna

Life is so amusing. Two years ago when I wrote the copy for the St. Dymphna image I mentioned the book Saints Preserve Us by Sean Kelly and Rosemary Rogers as a great source of information. Recently I was introduced to the authors at an Irish breakfast, at, of all places, St. Dymphna's Cafe´ on St. Mark's Place in the East Village. We were introduced by Hillary Carlip (FreshYarn.com), whose on-line personal essay salon is generating so much excitement. Last year Rosemary and Sean published The Saint-A-Day Guide (Random House), a must-have companion to Saints Preserve Us. They have a 2005 Saints Desk Calendar forthcoming so you can enjoy spiritual enlightenment 365 days a year. Their products are informative, entertaining and enlightening. They get the ServingSpirits Seal of Approval.

St. Dymphna is invoked for psychological problems. She is the spiritual equivalent of psychopharmacology's answers: mood elevators, anxiety relievers and anti-depressants. She will have her work cut out for her as New Yorkers prepare for the Republican National Convention.

PRAYER ON BEHALF OF THOSE AFFLICTED WITH NERVOUS ILLNESS

Lord Jesus Christ, You have willed that St. Dymphna should be invoked by thousands of clients as the patroness of nervous and mental disease and have brought it about that her interest in these patients should be an inspiration to and an ideal of charity throughout the world. Grant that, through the prayers of this youthful martyr of purity, those who suffer from nervous and mental illness everywhere on earth may be helped and consoled. I recommend to You in particular (Here mention those you wish to pray for). Be pleased to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna and of your Blessed Mother, Health of the Sick and Comforter of the Afflicted, in behalf of those whom I recommend to the love and compassion of Your Sacred Heart. Give them patience to bear with their affliction and resignation to do Your divine will. Give them the consolation they need and especially the cure they so much desire, if it be Your will. May we all serve your suffering members with a charity which may merit for us the reward of being united forever in Heaven with You, our Divine Head, who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever, Amen.
